Since its foundation in 1999, the GCB has been charged with the regulatory oversight of the land based casino industry. On December 4, 2013, the Curaçao government adopted the resolution that the GCB would become the regulator for the whole gaming industry in and from Curaçao, as was the intention since its foundation. The government accord 2017 - 2021 includes as one of its goals the realization of proper regulation and oversight of the gaming industry on Curaçao. At that time the GCB’s responsibilities were expanded from only the landbased casinos to the entire gaming industry. For more information on AML/ CFT, we refer to this page.

Future developments

The government of Curaçao is in the process of modernizing its gambling legislation to bring it in line with international standards and to adopt a responsible gaming policy that spans all gaming activities that are and will be licensed in the jurisdiction.

Based on this new law, the GCB will be converted into a new independent licensing and supervisory authority for all games of chance.
