Since its foundation in 1999 the GCB was mandated the regulatory oversight of the land based casino industry. On December 4, 2013, the Curaçao government adopted the resolution that the GCB would become the regulator for the whole gaming industry in and from Curaçao, as was the intention since its foundation. The government accord 2017 - 2021 includes the realization of proper regulation and oversight of the gaming industry on Curaçao. The GCB expects that this historic feat will be realized in early 2019.
In 2017 the GCB was mandated the responsibility for the issuance, revocation and suspension of all licenses related to the lottery industry, as well as the socio-cultural bingo and ‘bon ku ne’ activities. The GCB was also mandated the authority to make changes to the license requirements.
On May 2, 2018, a Memorandum of Understanding towards realization of horse racing legislation was signed. In this MOU the GCB is identified as the future regulator of the horse racing industry on Curaçao.
In February 2019 the GCB’s AML/CFT supervisory responsibilities were expanded from only the landbased casinos to the whole gaming industry operating in and from Curaçao.
The legislative process that will make the GCB the unified gaming regulator for all gaming in and from Curaçao, is underway.
